Hello

Horonyx (Veronica A. Vega) here! I dish out the cute, quirky, and then some! Inspired by old Kung-Fu movies, horror films, anime, and manga! If you're interested in supporting me and my work, then check out my ko-fi page.

Greyscale Works

I enjoy doing simple, grey scale illustrations. My art style was shaped by manga artists like Rumiko Takahashi who did the Ranma 1/2 series and Nobuhiro Watsuki who did Rurouni Kenshin. I also loved the illustrations found in the Andrew Lang Treasury of Fairy Tales, and Edward Gorey's works!

Colored Works

My colored illustrations can range from minimalistic, to cel-shading, and some attempts at digital painting. I admit that I still have a lot to learn, but I mostly enjoy the process of figuring out my own way or style that works best.

Comics

I have some comic-making experience thanks to two personal projects I had done: a zine, and a graphic memoir. The zine was a contribution to an event that occurred back in 2017 at Dumaguete City, Philippines called Comic Avenue.

In 2022, I would then complete a graphic memoir entitled Apple Girl as part of my master's thesis in creative writing. Apple Girl relayed my personal experiences dealing with fat/body shaming, and self-esteem issues. Scott McCloud's Understanding Comics as well as other graphic novels (e.g. Marjane Satrapi's Persepolis books and Allison Bechdel's Fun Home).

You can read the rest of my graphic memoir here on tumblr or on GlobalComix.

Animations

I've always been interested in animation thanks to websites like Albino Blacksheep that featured a variety of flash animations, and animators like Mikeinel and JohnSu on deviantArt. Back in the early 2000s, when art sites like Tegaki E were very popular, I wanted to showcase my original characters and make random, goofy videos about them. I hope to one day apply myself more and do more, all while learning about new resources and software that's popping up.For now, I tried doing an animatic that I've posted. Based off of original characters from the Maid Cafe group on Tegaki, it shows how one, grumpy character actually likes the "stupid face" of one of his co-workers. A short, silly animatic to Kaden MacKay's original song "Your Stupid Face".
